William Penn

Perhaps one of the greatest entrepreneurs of all time, William Penn is mostly noted for founding the Providence of Pennsylvania. According to ushistory.org publishers. William Penn was born in the mid seventeenth century and came to the New World with a group of prominent Quakers who settled in what is now known as New Jersey. When King Charles II granted Penn a large area south west of New Jersey to settle a debt that the king held with his late father. After many struggles and trials, William Penn eventually established the Pennsylvania area permanently and it now bears his name.

As previously noted, Penn is a highly decorated individual. In one of his most famous quotes, he states, “Justice is the insurance which we have on our lives and property. Obedience is the premium which we pay for it.” By which he means that throughout life, in order to operate in a just manner within society, justice comes at a price. In order for others to behave accordingly, one must obey the same rules as if they were meant for and against oneself. In order to be protected by laws and justices, one must obey their rules as well.

By obeying laws, an individual resigns the desire to lash out onto others. I have previously witnessed drunk drivers being harmed in severe car accidents. Bystanders were furious and for the right reasons. Those bystanders witnessed laws being executed as the drunk driver was severely punished for his actions. In the same way, the bystanders obey the laws not to operate motor vehicles under the influence.
