Creator Mindset Essay

If a single moment could change the course of your life for the better, would you make the best of it? Adopting a Creator mindset is a lot like taking off dirty clothes so that you can feel cleaner. Creators are people who make their own lives better and create states of minds that people wish to pursue and will actually enjoy living by constantly making better choices for his or herself, according to Dr. Skip Downing. Creators also take into consideration what effect negative choices can have on their lives, but they choose to bypass those choices and execute what they deem best fitting for themselves. A Creator knows what is right and wrong in a given situation and weighs the pros and cons of that situation to make the right decision. Creators are people who actively work towards their goals regardless of outside forces trying to hinder them from doing so. Victims do not.

Creators are aware of the better choice in a given situation. According to David Mirman is an American author who wrote, in his article about Creators and Victims, that two students were supposed to obtain their class books for a college course. Dr. Downing was correct in menting that it was not the first student’s fault that she could not get the book at that store because the store was out of stock. But she did have the choice to keep looking and chose not to do so. Because of the high demand for the book, the book store didn’t have enough books in stock to sell one to every student. One of the students decided to accept that she did not get the book from the store and simply came to class unprepared, claiming that it wasn’t his/her fault for not having the book, it was the book store’s. And although this is true, it didn’t help her case at all since she still didn’t have the book. The other student, however, searched for the same book in several different book stores and eventually found a store that hat the book for less than what the school’s store asked for it. The student used his savings to buy expedited air shipping and handling and got the book in time or class. The second student didn’t accept that it was the book store’s fault and found a way to get the book regardless of the situation.

Clearly, the other student who continued to search for a copy of the textbook is the Creator in the example. Unlike now, I haven’t always had a Creator mindset. When I arrived in the United States at the age of twelve, I barely spoke a broken version of American English. I got on the plane just two days prior to landing and was now sitting in an unfamiliar class, listening to strangers speaking a language I didn’t understand. I barely knew how to ask to go to the bathroom and even that only came to me after much trial and error. “How will I ever make it home?” I thought to myself as the teacher finished talking about something called a fraction. “Entschuldigen Sie mich, koennte ich bitte mal auf die Toilette gehen?” I bluntly asked the teacher with the little confidence I had at the time. I knew that she couldn’t understand me but I didn’t know how else to ask. She simply looked at  me with a puzzled facial expression and I just walked out. I would never fit in here. I had gotten so used to the snickering behind my back and the odd looks from other people that I just gave up and wanted to go home so badly that I didn’t think about whether or not I was doing the right thing.

Even though I gave up on myself at the time, someone else didn’t.I met this boy who didn’t really seem to fit in with anyone himself and we soon became friends. His name was Aaron Ware. He and I connected quickly because we were both in the same four classes for the entire year. Aaron was a different kind of person because he had this glow to his personality that enabled every one of his actions to be flawlessly carried out. He constantly told me that my broken English wasn’t anything bad. “Half these kids don’t even speak proper English and you’re at least trying to learn it, so you’re already ahead” he told me on a daily basis. Aaron helped me order my food during lunch and kept me out of many fights that, at the time, I would have never seen turn into fights. We often car-pooled and he spent the night at my house every other weekend and after a few months, I was speaking English fluently. I could now speak two languages flawlessly and no longer had any trouble communicating with my peers. I regard Aaron as a Creator because he didn’t look at my broken English as a negative thing, but as an opportunity to improve in all the right ways.

As a Creator, phrases such as “I will try” and“we’ll see how it goes” will no longer be in my vocabulary. Maintaining an active Creator mindset allows me to achieve the the task I put my mind to. By adopting a Creator mindset for myself, I will dedicate a few hours every day to my classes and assignments and adjust my work schedule to accommodate my school schedule in order to maintain my GPA above a 3.8. Throughout my Thomas Nelson career, I plan to trade stocks part time to achieve my goal of profiting one hundred thousand dollars by the time I graduate. I will actively demonstrate the Creator mindset through my great grades and financial stability as I progress throughout life.
